The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Malaria (GCNM) is a Civil Society organization alliance founded in 2008. Its membership consists of NGOs, FBOs and CBOs in communities throughout Ghana.
The GCNM history
A coalition created because malaria’s impact was being felt most strongly at community level.
The legacy GCNM website describes the coalition as an alliance of NGOs, FBOs and CBOs founded in 2008, with governance through a seven-member Board of Directors made up of multidisciplinary civil-society leaders.
Its original mandate emphasised coordinating NGOs in the fight against malaria and strengthening behaviour-change communication with communities and stakeholders.

The coalition was set up to oversee the operations of NGOs in the fight against malaria in communities across Ghana, with emphasis on behavioural change communication to stakeholders, reflecting the heavy burden of malaria on children under five and pregnant women.
Our Collaboration
Working with the National Malaria Elimination Programme.
Since its formation, GCNM has collaborated with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), supporting malaria interventions at the lowest levels of the health delivery system in communities.
Our State
Community-Led Monitoring, rights and stronger accountability.
GCNM is strengthening advocacy and Community-Led Monitoring of health service delivery across communities, while integrating human rights, gender, equity and community-system priorities into its malaria work.
The story continues
The coalition’s next chapter is about turning community evidence into system improvement.
Today, GCNM’s role extends beyond awareness. The coalition is building stronger mechanisms for Community-Led Monitoring, member coordination, district-level engagement, social and behaviour change, programme learning and national advocacy.

2008 — Founded
The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Malaria (GCNM) was founded in 2008 as an alliance of civil-society organisations. Its membership includes NGOs, FBOs and CBOs working in communities throughout Ghana.
2015 — Our core mandate
The coalition was established to coordinate NGO participation in the fight against malaria in Ghanaian communities, with strong emphasis on behavioural change communication. This mandate reflected the continuing impact of malaria, particularly on children under five years and pregnant women.
2020 — Collaboration
Since its formation, GCNM has collaborated with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) and other partners to implement malaria interventions at the community level and strengthen civil-society participation in the national response.
Current direction
GCNM continues to champion advocacy, Community-Led Monitoring and community accountability for health-service delivery, with attention to human rights, gender, equity and resilient community health systems as Ghana advances toward malaria elimination.
